Public Housing

attendee at resident fair visiting vendor booth

Nationwide, Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family houses to high rise apartments for elderly families. There are more than 1.2 million households living in public housing units, managed by some 3300 PHAs throughout the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Since 1978, the WHHA has been the sole source provider of Public housing in the City of Winter Haven, which includes two family communities and one site dedicated to our elderly families. Our communities are centrally located within the City and easily accessible to local stores, financial institutions, schools and medical care facilities.
